EVERY dog can benefit from training. If you notice your dog displaying behaviors that aren't "bad enough" to need to hire a trainer, consider this: could your dog acting out of fear, stress? Lunging at strangers or scaring away the mailman may seem harmless, but could be dramatically lowering your dogs self-esteem and overall emotional well-being.
If done correctly, yes. keeping training sessions short, and ending on a good note, with lots of positive reinforcement are just some of the key techniques we will use to ensure your dog never wants to ditch class. This is not a boot camp.
I got my start in behavior by working with the shelter dogs who were returned for bites, and other severe problem behaviors, that they would otherwise have been euthanized for. I believe no dogs are "bad" but as far as the issues you're experiencing, there is hope! I've seen, and solved much worse.
Absolutely! There are several dog trainers online that are more than qualified to help, HOWEVER-
for every qualified trainer, their are ten other uneducated people spreading information that is frankly false. Additionally, YouTube can't see YOUR dog, therefore finding the root of the issue is not always going to be possible. All dogs are different, and they all learn differently, Rad Dogs will get to know your dog as an individual and help considerably more because of it.
Ah, the great positive/negative debacle. Negative reinforcement techniques are heavily defended because they do often yield results. The issue is that it usually wont stick, because aversive methods only teach the dogs what they shouldn't do, rather than teaching them the correct decisions. If we want to split hairs, We will technically be using "balanced" training methods to help your dog, following the guidelines of LIMA (Least Intrusive, Minimally Aversive) to keep it as effective and enjoyable as possible for you and your dog.
